Is the Sun Friend or Foe to the Skin?

The sun is often seen as a foe to our skin. We are told to protect our skin from it to avoid damage and signs of aging. While I do think sun protection is important I don’t think we need to fear the sun. Especially if you already lead a lifestyle that supports the health of your skin.

The sun gives life. It is in the plants we eat and the air we breath. It’s important to give gratitude to all the benefits of the sun while still having a good plan for your skin when coming in contact with the sun.

Here are some tips for your skin when spending time in the sun….

Wear a sun block.

A sun block acts as a barrier on top of the skin to block UV rays. I suggest looking for a sunblock that contains zinc oxide or titanium oxide. I prefer zinc oxide sunblocks because it also helps to heal the skin. I apply my sunblock every morning before I go out.

Ditch the chemical sunscreens.

Most sunscreens contain chemical ingredients that may lead to skin problems and other health issues. I prefer to instead use a zinc oxide or titanium oxide sunblock mentioned previously as a safer alternative.

Wear a hat and sunglass.

Especially if you will be out in the sun for a long period of time it might be a good idea to wear a hat and sunglasses for extra protection.

Have fun in the sun!

Now you have a simple guide for skin safety in the sun. Again there is no need to fear the sun. If you love the sun go out and have fun in it. Doing what makes you happy is good for your skin too!
